Deepwave Digital has been granted an additional patent related to its GPU-based software defined radio (SDR) technology, the AIR-T.
The original patent award for the GPU-based SDR technology (US Patent No 11,436,525) was issued in September of 2022 and covers the incorporation of a graphics processing unit (GPU) into the SDR ecosystem. The architecture described in the original patent includes the direct data transfer between a radio frequency (RF) receiver to a GPU-based SDR system.
A key invention within the original patent was an architecture for efficient memory management, low-latency data transfer, and utilization of GPU/CPU shared memory. This combination enables real-time computing of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and parallel processing within the radio hardware. Deepwave implemented this technology on the AIR-T product line, the only SDR with built-in GPU computing, enabling next generation AI and advanced signal processing algorithms.
With the new patent award (US Patent No 11,790,273), Deepwave has expanded the breadth of its intellectual property to include a digital signal processor for enhanced capability. With this architecture, wideband digital signal data passes through a field programmable gate array (FPGA) processor and is written directly to the GPU/CPU shared memory buffer. The FPGA may be used for additional processing such as data reduction, implementation of a modulation scheme, or other signal processing tasks.
“With the new AI radio patent, Deepwave has received recognition of its hard work in creating the first GPU-based software defined radio system. This technology is already included in our existing product line and will also be included in our upcoming AIR-T product line. It has been in use by defense and telecommunications customers for years to solve some of the most challenging aspects of communications, radar, and electronic protection.” Says John Ferguson, CEO of Deepwave Digital.
